Known as the City of Three Waters, you don’t have to go far in Bunbury before you come across a stunning beach or cool waterside café. The Waterfront Precinct stretches along Koombana Bay from the Dolphin Discovery Centre all the way to the Port. Friendly dolphins, calm waters, beachside cafes, restaurants for all tastes and wallets, themed playgrounds, a splash park, a huge skate park at Koolambidi Woola and the famous Taffy’s lolly shop make this the perfect place to spend the day with family. Victoria Street provides loads of options for food and drink and of course shopping if that’s what you ae looking for. The City is home to the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery with regularly changing exhibitions and also a huge collection of street art in the Bunbury Mural Trail.
Known for its endless beaches and beautiful dams Harvey has so many beautiful places to explore. Surfing, swimming, fishing and kayaking are all on the agenda in this water lover’s paradise. check out Binningup and Myalup beaches which go for miles. Or why not explore Lake Brockman or Harvey Dam in a kayak? The Lake Brockman Tourist Park is worth spending some time at at the perfect place for a holiday break. Harvey Region is known for its fresh produce and you don’t have to look too hard to find locally made wine, cheese and other produce. Check out Brugan Brewery and Harvey Cheese at Wokalup, Harvey River Estate and Geovino in Harvey where you can now enjoy a glass of local wine and gourmet goodies.
DARDANUP AND THE FERGUSON VALLEY
Picturesque at any time of year this region extends from the coast at Eaton all the way to the Wellington National Park. There is so much to do here including visiting the 1000s of gnomes found at Gnomesville, the King Jarrah tree in Wellington Forest or the mountain bike trails at Mount Lennard. Look out for the beautiful new art work on Pile Road which frames the valley beautifully. You will also be spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drink with wineries, breweries and restaurants combining both throughout the Valley. Check out St Aidan Wines next to the tiny heritage church. Book the special long lunch at Hackersley Winery. Try the gourmet pizzas at Ferguson Falls Wines Café or have a locally made brew at the Brew Shack Brewery or Wild Bull Brewery. You won’t want to leave.
COLLIE RIVER VALLEY
This is where you can get your adventure on! Do an early morning ride through Wellington National Park by e-bike with Adventure Connections or test your skills on the downhill runs in Arklow Forest Trails. Hire a kayak from Traaverse and while away the hours on Black Diamond or Stockton Lake. Swim in the bracing waters of Honeymoon Pool or try something a bit more adventurous like water skiing on Lake Kepwari. There are plenty of cool places to camp and some excellent walking trails to explore. You can even book a walking tour of the murals in town and the Wellington Dam Mural with Forest Explorers. There are also some great places for a bit to eat in Collie like the Crown Hotel, the Collie Ridge Motel Restaurant, BarnZee’s Burgers and Barista and the Wagon.
Capel is known for it’s quaint towns, country pub and bakeries and breathtaking sandy beaches. Capel town has a great bakery which is a perfect lunch stop while on the road and the Capelberry Cafe is definitely worth a stop. The town has a great skatepark and play area for the kids to stretch their legs and blow off some steam. Boyanup is a lovely town to explore with one of the region’s best drive through coffee shops, Coffee Joy, and some great local shops to explore in the Rustic French Living and the Felting Pot. Back to the coast and Peppermint Grove and Stratham beaches are always popular with families, especially the holiday park at Peppermint Grove Beach. Capel Vale and Kellievale Estate wineries area also worth exploring.
DONNYBROOK & BALINGUP
Venture deep into the countryside and explore some of the most beautiful drives in the region. Through cool forests and along winding country roads you can immerse yourself in apple orchards and rolling hills. Donnybrook has beautiful quaint country pubs and cafes to explore. As WA’s apple growing heart you can always find farm fresh fruit, check out the Fruit Barn and try out the Orchard Café for lunch or a snack. The Apple Fun Park is always popular with families and will keep the kids entertained for hours. Balingup is a charming small country town with quirky festivals and friendly people. Check out the beautiful lotions and potions at local favourite the Tinderbox. Check out the award winning pies at Mushroom 61 or try some of the unique locally made fruit wines at the Balingup Fruit Winery. The area around Donnybrook is home to some fabulous emerging wineries which may be small but punch well above their weight in terms of quality. Check out Barreccas Wines (wine and olive oil), Coughlan Estate (wine, food and locally made produce), Thompson Brook Winery (wine and self contained RV camping), Oakway Estate (wine and pizza) and Smallwater Estate (wine and food). There is also a number of other small wineries many of which open by appointment only.
